Neurodiversity Pride Day to be Celebrated June 16

MACOMB, IL - - Â鶹´«Ã½ Illinois University will be celebrating Neurodiversity Pride Day on Monday, June 16.
Neurodiversity Pride Day recognizes the diversity of human cognition, honoring the unique ways our brains process, learn and relate to the world around us.
Â鶹´«Ã½ political science professor Casey LaFrance serves on the Wisdom Council of the Neurodiversity Foundation and has pioneered inclusive educational practices, including the development of sensory rooms at Â鶹´«Ã½ and advocating for the affirmation of the neurodivergent paradigm in faculty policy.
"I believe in shaping communities where neurodivergent people don't just survive, they belong, lead and thrive," LaFrance said. "This council gives me a way to help create that future."
Â鶹´«Ã½ is flying a flag at the University Union throughout Neurodiversity Pride Week, June 10-17 to celebrate everyone's unique strengths.
"We are happy and proud to support the neurodiverse members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ community by showcasing this annual international day of recognition," Director of Â鶹´«Ã½'s Justice, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity office, Carl Ervin, said. "All are encouraged to use this day to learn more about neurodiversity and the splendor of humanity."
